A traffic violation may not seem like much at the time. However, it can quickly create problems for a driver, including unaffordable insurance premiums and the potential for more severe penalties for future mistakes. As one recent incident shows, New Jersey traffic violations can be costly, especially if an incident results in numerous charges at once.

Early one morning, police say a 43-year-old man was driving an SUV west along a state highway when he apparently swerved out of his lane and struck the median. His vehicle proceeded until it collided with one traffic signal before striking a second pole. The impact of the second collision sent the vehicle across the median into the eastbound lanes, where it ended up at the opening to an exit ramp.

The vehicle burst into flames. Fortunately, the driver was able to escape without injury. Police responded to the accident and reported finding the driver standing outside the burning SUV. The man now faces numerous violations, including driving on a revoked license, failing to stay in his lane, reckless driving and driving while intoxicated. He is also charged with violating New Jersey’s temporary nonessential travel order.

Drivers dealing with traffic violations may face more than a simple inconvenience. Convictions in municipal court may result in hours of community service, steep fines and risky points on a driver’s license. To minimize the negative outcomes that are possible for such offenses, it is wise to seek experienced legal support.
